The theme for this edition of Contact Sheet is “Location, Location, Location.”  Despite the fashion-sappy aspects of Living in a Virtual World, as illustrated by the previous article, there is much beauty to be found in the landscapes that either Governor Linden or, more often, the Residents have built.  The below gives a sampling of recent work by traveling photographers from around the virtual worlds.

=====

Rawnie Lane gives us The path to the lighthouse, a look at a seaside that might have come from many places in seaside New England.  Check out the little splashes of red lupines in the foreground, and and what I think is some Photoshop blurring to give the work more of a “painterly” feel.

=====

Hurtling from the natural to the patently man-made*, bark Aabaye takes us to a club that looks at least partially made with the roots of a steel tree.  The actinic glare of lightning draws you in at first glance; from there, your eye travels to the twisting metal conduits overhead before following the light beams down to the dancers on the floor.

Pirate Braveheart’s Whimsy On My Mind makes me think of a Maxfield Parrish painting.  He appears to have used a semi-translucent overlay texture on top of the main image, giving this park-like setting a richness you don’t normally see in world.

Photos of the Pteron region caught my attention the other day, when I was browsing the group named The Shoot at Koinup — a group that gives members a location to photograph, then lets them loose for their creations.  This piece is offered by “SpankiM.”

=====

Carmy Mirabeau calls this alchemydone.  The cottage is a build by AlchemyImmortalis Cyannis, and the lighting gives this a gloomy, almost grim feel, which may be something of a pity.  Carmy included a SLurl to the site, but it’s broken; you may need to experiment with it, or search in the Map, to find the right region to go to.

=====

“Baroque” offers a simple composition from Japan Kansai, evocative of the region the sim represents, again given texture to make the photograph resemble an exquisite watercolor.  I invited this photo to my Virtual Japan and China group in Koinup.

=====

I haven’t been to Lumineria, but the photo by “Harbor-Galaxy” titled Evening in Lumineria makes me want to go.  The first thing that came to mind here was Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

=====

Closing out this column, Marlia Looming gives us clouds, and another region, Patron, that might be straight out of a European setting.
