The Royal Ladies of the Universe

It’s been a busy time for all four of us, between our various RL jobs, activities and families; but especially for me.  You see, I just semi-retired … I’ve taken up new, easier occupations, but retired completely from my retail job.  Another Christmas shopping season like the last would have been soul-crunching, if not crushing.  And I’m not really up to the physical demands of retail in many ways, what with my RL age.  (We won’t go into details!)

But also, the last child will be leaving the nest to enter college in the fall — he graduates from high school next week — and that would mean, if I were scheduled for a night shift, that the husband would come home to a dark house after a long shift at the office.  After over 12 years of going through this, that’s not any good.  Last year, I asked if there were a chance of getting placed permanently on morning (opening) shift at all, and informed that wasn’t possible.  That, plus various changes at several levels in the company, made me feel it was time to “turn in my papers.”

And so, with that, it’s time to celebrate!  A change of clothes, a change of skin … hell, even a change of hair … and then sweet-talking the other ladies to do it with me.

Actually, they were quite willing, especially when I suggested we do one of our “space ladies” routines.  We had all indulged in shopping sprees on skins and clothes at the Plastik booth in Fantasy Faire, and we either pulled out favorite wigs from (now long-gone) Gesamtkunstwerk — “Griddie” — or picked up a few from existing stock.  (Griddie hair is still available on the Marketplace, but not the entire catalogue.)  And then I started pulling together the elements of a new palace, a world regal enough in setting for such fantastic ladies of the Realm Imperial and Galactic as yours truly and my court.  (Yes, I know; my head is swelling here.  It’s worth it; these costumes are some of the best we found at the Faire, and deserve a rich setting.)

You really could call these dresses, designed in collaboration with Storybook, more futuristic than fantasial, if it came down to it.  They are a halter style; the collar surrounds the neck, then one strip of cloth drops down briefly to yoke the dress to the collar.  Cutouts run down both sides to the hips.  The colors (available as a HUD with the fatpack, including a few exclusive colors not offered individually) are varied and rich.

The skins are richly colored, as well.  I’ve purchased Plastik skins before, and they’re always worth the price, with lots of color range, and beautiful work on the basic design beneath the color.  Look at Jem’s back here, which she went in again in costume to shoot for me (thanks, Jemmy!).  There’s a galaxy in these skins, done again in collaboration, this time with Trap.  They worked long and hard to put together quality skins for this Fantasy Faire.  Male skins are available as well.
