Second Life Maximum Daily Concurrency Peaks At 56, 148 During Coronavirus Crisis   1 comment

It appears people are beginning to remember Second Life … and, hopefully, for better reasons than as a “den of debauchery” — Oh, you mean there are some parts like that …? (Grin)

=====

Daniel Voyager

According to the Second Life Grid Survey the maximum daily concurrency in #SecondLife reached 56, 148 on 22nd March 2020. The median daily concurrency average at the moment is around 42, 000. It’s getting a little higher every week but no huge peaks in the max daily concurrency yet due to the current Coronavirus crisis.

If things get worse in the next few weeks and months then I think the Second Life daily concurrency levels will go up due to the strict lockdowns across the world. If any new huge peak occurs soon then I will blog about it.

Second Life Grid Survey Data

What do you think the concurrency levels will be in the weeks and months ahead ?

A Few Words…   Leave a comment

This is good tidings for the ACS, the creators, for us as individuals, and for us as a community as well. Not only will the annual tradition continue, but this will give us as a community the opportunity to socialize and relax from the stress we are currently under. Remember to be patient this year, as the Faireland sims will probably be under a lot of strain for the first days. Keep your costume as gentle on the regions as you can, and don’t grouse if you find yourself walking around like in a cooled vat of treacle fudge.

Fantasy Faire 2020

Dear Friends,

It’s a scary time. Let’s just get that out of the way. I have been following the news more in the past two weeks than I have in the past two years. I worry about what is happening around the world. How it is going to affect all of you. How it is going to affect the Faire. I have asked myself is having the Faire even a priority right now; however, my heart left no room for doubt on that question. Now is definitely the time for the Fairelands to reappear. Perhaps now, more than ever in their twelve year history, they are needed. They provide a home for us to return to from our scattered corners of the world. We will gather with friends and family in a way that is shut off for so many of us now in our physical lives. I find the…

REBLOG — This World Needs More Neighbors Like Mr Rogers   Leave a comment

John Pavlovitz

As I promised back in 2017, this blog wasn’t going to stay aloof from sensitive things in Real Life.  We do, however, pick and choose what we fasten on to for speaking on or republishing, which is why the political world hasn’t intruded as much as we might have.

However, this piece, written by John Pavlovitz, needs to be read, please.  If we remembered the core message of all Fred Rogers did, ignoring the surface hagiography that has accumulated since his death, and put those teachings into effect, we might not be in the state we’re in currently.

Please click through and read this.  They who have ears to hear, let them hear ….

=====

I got to visit with an old neighborhood friend today. When I was a child, Fred Rogers always made me feel that his home was my home, and I gladly spent countless afternoons there learning and listening and dreaming. Sitting in a packed screening of Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, a much older, much more cynical… Continue Reading This World Needs More Neighbors Like Mr Rogers

Bakes on Mesh – a basic primer – Inara Pey: Living in a Modem World   Leave a comment

Monday, August 26th, 2019 saw the formal release of Bakes on Mesh (BoM) for Second Life, and with it, an attempt to make system wearables (skins, tattoo and clothing layers) usable on modern mesh a…

=====

Inara has an excellent read for everyone who, as we are, will be experimenting with Bakes on Mesh.  I’m believing, from what we’ve tried so far, that it will be very similar to what we had before the rise of mesh heads and bodies, but with new channels added for some items.  This definitely brings back the ability to layer makeup … and makes me wish I’d hung on to some of my old tattoo packages, as well as old system clothes.

I can say that the old vendors of tattoo-level makeup will be getting fresh infusions of lindens into their accounts, as people start digging into the older depths of Avatar Components on the Marketplace.  Classic skin sellers, such as my old, reliable PXL, will get a fresh lease on their older products as well.

Check with your body and head providers, and see if they support BoM yet, either native or as a relay.  There’s much to learn here about glitches (such as “sparkle toes”), but I think it will pay in the end.
