Some Suggestions from Fashion for Life Bloggers

Writing from Kissimmee, Florida.

Fashion for Life has been spectacularly successful so far this year.  The report from the sidebar counter at the event blog is at least L$4.3 million — that’s better than USD $16,000 contributed, with better than four days left in the event.  Not bad, people!

If you’re looking for some ideas, let me throw these at you.  The links go to six articles at three of the best fashion blogs out there:  Michelle Hyacinth’s Weblog, Cajsa Lilliehook’s It’s Only Fashion and Harper Beresford’s A Passion for Virtual Fashion.

REBLOG: Tyako Coage, As Photographed By Ruriko Bracken

Ruriko Bracken, a Japanese Second Life Resident and a lovely model and photographer, takes a break now and then from the virtual world for some Real Life.  She’s currently back in, and most welcome in both her roles.

In this feature, found on her own Japanese-language blog, Ruriko Style, Ruri-chan does a pair of excellent photos of Tyako Coage, Miss Virtual World Japan 2012.  Tyako is wearing a gown from AZUL that was designed for her.  I’ll include one thumbnail here to get you interested; if you want more, go visit Ruri-chan’s article.  There is a Google Translate button on the right side, so you can get a (species of) translation into your language easily.

Quickie — Azul Canna Sombra Limited Edition

I’m running behind today, what with a nap before I finished up the last Contact Sheet piece, so this is a quick piece on one of Azul’s recent limited-edition color releases, gifted to me most kindly by Cajsa Lilliehook.  I love the collar line here, but you can leave that off for an equally excellent strapless gown.  (Go to the end for the details.)

Your Baby Really Looks Good in Blue

Say it ain’t true
The things that they’ve been saying
They say that you’ve found
Someone new
But don’t break my heart
‘Cos your baby never looked good in blue
Your baby never looked good in blue

Leather Cinderella (via A Passion for Virtual Fashion)

I love it when someone does a great piece of writing. Harper Beresford’s fashion taste is great here, too. Go forth, and enjoy!

Leather Cinderella Once upon a time in a homestead sim far far away (probably Zindra), in a stately sculpty chateau lived a widowed gentleman and his lovely daughter, Cinderella. While he loved his daughter, he was concerned for her well-being—he thought she needed a mother to teach her how to tweak her shape and position her eyelashes. So he partnered a woman, HotMama51 Paine,  who had two daughters—Squeakieee278 Resident and 2Fly4U Afterthought and gave her … Read More

2011 Oscar Fashion Photo Contest: And the Winners Are….

At last, it’s done!  After tacking on two extra weeks to the 2011 Oscar Fashion Photo Contest, it took almost another week of running through the entries and comparing, scoring and recomparing before I came up with the winners.  Now, I’m happy and proud to announce them to you all.

There were nearly 40 entries this year, down from last year as I’ve noted elsewhere.  A few Second Life entries were made from Koinup, but none came from other worlds, and so there is no set of non-SL winners to announce.  I need to get this contest better publicized next year; we may be able to do something about that.  Having said this, the time taken to judge these 40 photos was needed.  We have a very talented group of photographers, models and designers in Second Life, and the order of these winners could have been different by only a few points of subjective judgment.  I’ve tried to be as fair and objective as possible with the choices I’ve made here — a difficult job, though an enjoyable one at the same time.

For this year’s winners, click on and behold excellence….

2010 SL Oscar Fashion Contest: And the Winners Are….

A bit of a cash windfall allowed me to do an unannounced increase in the prizes for my first SL Oscar Fashion Contest!  The first place will receive L$2,500; 2nd, L$2,000; and 3rd, L$1,500.  I’m also going to do four Honorable Mentions, and have decided after checking the bank account that each will receive L$250.

As these things always are, this was not an easy contest to judge.  I had around 50 entries by the time I closed my groups at Flickr and Koinup for the year, including one who entered by leaving a link in the comments to my original contest announcement (a legal form of entry).  Almost all of the entries were good, and many of them were excellent good.  I had to rework the cut three times before I started the judging in real earnest.  And, in the end, 2nd and 3rd place were tied — although any one of the three places might have been worthy of first.

And so my thanks to all, my congratulations to the winners, and I hope you’ll enjoy the shopping spree I’ve just financed for you.  The Accessory Fair is going right now, so there’s a chance to blow the cash in one spot (grin).

Onward to the winners!
