“How did the Zebra get her stripes?”

From Sascha Frangilli, of course.

This delicious number I’m wearing is named Zebra, and was a L$60 special at Sascha’s Designs last weekend.  I would have liked to write about it then, but this entire weekend has been chaos in a cart, and so here I am today doing the job.  I’m pretty sure this ensemble is no longer just L$60, and yet it’ll be worth every centiLinden you’ll pay (grin).

I’m not normally into animal print patterns — I don’t think you’ll ever find me wearing a leopard-skin coat, real or fake; too tacky, to me — but these pants, with their zipper pockets, appeal.  They fit quite nicely, and leave room for a pair of ankle boots, such as my old standby Biddles.  (I can’t tell you how many pairs of system pants — system pants, no prims! — are too large to fit under at least a pair of ankle boots.)

Then we turn to this excellent top, with just a touch of frilliness at the cuffs, and a lovely prim collar behind the head.  And that neckline…!  I don’t normally show off this much cleavage in RL; but in Second Life, the home of the Fiercely Fashionable,, where the bodies are as perfect as you want them to be, why not go for it?

You may notice I’m trying out a new makeup.  I got a notice from Adam n Eve a few weeks ago, and went to check a new skin.  I didn’t end up getting that, but I found another, Natasha, that appealed.  I like the subtler eyeshadow of this, along with the redness of the lipstick (which I’m matching with a set of screaming red prim nails).  On the top layer, I have a nice enhancement for those who use Viewer 2 — eyeliner from Miamai!  I think that it not only improves the general look of the makeup, but helps to hide any lingering problems I may have with eyelash adjustment (grin).

Refusing to Shed My (Snake)skin (Skirt)

Once in a while, you gotta have something not part of a single dress combination.  As Cajsa Lilliehook and Gidge Uriza of It’s Only Fashion are so fond of showing, and as we all know in real life, mix ‘n match is the way to go.  Of course, these days it’s called a mashup, but (shrug).

I saw this skirt on a shopping run one afternoon, and knew I wanted it.  I’d never wear snakeskin in real life; snakes have their rights, after all, except maybe for invasive-species pythons in the Florida Everglades.  But here in Second Life, snakes are far from an endangered creature; they’re just another texture on a prim.  To go along with this, I dug until I found this halter top from League, and added a belt to the ensemble to make the waist look right.

Since it was a midi skirt, I could wear boots with no problems; and so I pulled out an old favorite, my pair of the original model of Biddle black boots.  Bax Coen is all the rage right now, but Biddle still has fine boots, and I’d never delete these babies.

The jewelry is a set (purchased as separates in this case) of what looks rather pre-Columbian themed pieces:  a collar, cuff bracelets and earrings from alaMood.  And the hair!  I didn’t know that Miamai did hair, but now I do.  I had to mess with this to get a fit, but it adjusts quite readily, with no scripts.

Casual Tuesday in Second Life

Most of my fashion sessions are in gowns; and I’ll admit that I love the swirl of silk and satin about me at night.  (Which is a good thing, since Frank’s Place (SLurl, other articles) is my favorite club in Second Life.)  “Gowns” is probably the second largest item in my Inventory after “Hair.”

But let’s face it; it isn’t nighttime all the time.  (Unless you keep your environment settings locked on “sunset” or “evening.”)  You gotta have the sun as well as the moon, the yang as well as the yin.  And you can look just as good in casuals as you can in a floaty Nicky Ree or Baiastice.

There’s a lovely little coffeehouse in Rainforest Isle Estates called the Drip ‘n Grind.  I like to pop in there once in a while when I’m not hanging out of a morning at the Blarney Stone.  Not the place for a gown, most times of the day; it’s not a “rough” neighborhood, of course (who’d set up a coffeehouse in the Badlands?), but this wasn’t anywhere near after-club clubbin’ time, when you’d stop in for a cuppa joe and some pie or eggs Benedict.  So something a little more casual is called for.

Shopping for Vinyl in Creamshop

How many have been to Creamshop region?  It’s a struggle to move around in there sometimes, as it’s an Openspace region (I thought I was going to get away from writing about these, but….)  I’m reluctant to post a landmark, but I’m trusting people won’t flock there, so to speak.  Any road, if you do go there, you’ll find an experience that beggars words to describe.  Designed with wonderful artistry and craftsmanship, the rainy moodiness of Creamshop somehow fills you with longing and joy at the same time.

Of course, the eternal drench pouring down from the skies, as eternal as the Dantëan rains of the third circle of the Inferno, can get oppressive at some point.  When I visited the other day, I ran for some shelter — being careful to watch out for the cabs in the street — into a small record store across the way from the actual Creamshop store.  In there, it was fascinating to go digging through the shelves and bins for goodies.  If I ever get a stereo capable of playing vinyl — and if the owners of the region keep it going — it might be nice to jump back and pick up some titles.

Creamshop store itself has some nice stuff, and I’m wearing some of it in these pictures.  The one problem I could have is with the muffler, which you have to edit by script.  I’ll experiment with it in future, but I’m fighting for cycles with the other half in Real Life; Kit’s (ahem) acquiring a few lectures at the moment.  So I’ll reserve judgment on that aspect for now.  In any case, enjoy!
