Whew. After the past three or four days, I deserve this break moment. The only thing missing is a Milano cookie.

People of the Heart – Friends   3 comments

Continued from Part 2 ….

Zana Sherman was fortunate that this weekend wasn’t as academically busy as it would become closer to the end of term. It seemed that her social calendar was compensating, by sending her invitations to meet with people she loved or enjoyed. Aside from Alon Cohen on Friday night, though, she was holding things to only an hour or so, and joining up with them on the way to other venues, such as the laundry or the Psych House … the graduate students’ name for the departmental offices. Even for a college student … at least one as diligent as Zana … socializing wasn’t everything ….

But she stretched the limits at Saturday lunch, because the meal was with Dara Furtano-Fa. The relationship with “Big Sis” ran back to when Dara had saved the lives of both Zana and her mother on the construction stage of The Land of Fantasy, her mother’s famous theatre. Not only had Zana met Dara that day, but the accident had set events in motion that led to Dara’s getting the cyborg conversion she had desired … and all that had arisen in the ‘borg community since.

Both women had a fondness for a restaurant in Vidran’s Arosen sector that offered what the owner called “Mongolian grill,” but served up al fresco. They were deep in discussion at a shady table outside the restaurant, situated on a food court in one corner of the district’s park. “And so the term’s going well so far?” Dara asked as their tea arrived. The sun of Videra’s primary glinted off her sunglasses, worn mostly for fashion’s sake, as ‘borgs’ eyes were quite capable of handling bright sunshine. (The sun also gleamed off the integuments of both women, golden on Zana and silver on Dara; they had chosen the shady table to spare the eyes of other diners and passersby as much as possible from the reflection.)

Drift Away   Leave a comment

Day after day, I’m more confused
Yet I look for the light through the pourin’ rain
You know that’s a game that I hate to loose
And I’m feelin’ the strain, ain’t it a shame

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock ‘n’ roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock ‘n’ roll and drift away

Not just 1 of us, but 4; turn the page ….

Salt Water Sunset

… Soon it got dusk, a grapy dusk, a purple dusk over tangerine groves and long melon fields; the sun the color of pressed grapes, slashed with burgandy red, the fields the color of love and Spanish mysteries ….

Jack Kerouac, On the Road

… The sun is setting in a burnt orange sky; the cliffs are black silhouettes; the sea, liquid silver ….

Laura Treacy Bentley, The Silver Tattoo

… Bright colours in the west, giant butterflies dancing as night crept like a cripple toward the east ….

Teleport to Salt Water

Kia Kaha Stopover

A quick visit here for me. I was trying to get this up much earlier on Friday, before this week’s Fifty Linden Fridays finished up, but didn’t make it. The skirt and wrapped sweater, however, are from Caboodle, and I think they’re part of a standard set of separates, so you can still get them — just not at the sweet L$ 50 price.

Shovel Sand, Not Snow

My fellow bloggers all say they enjoy the snow. Me, I look forward to retiring one day so somewhere a tad warmer in the winter than State College, thank you. Not too warm; I don’t want to exchange the freezer of wintertime Pennsylvania for a broiler during the summer. (Who knows? maybe I’d better not worry about it and just live with what I get dealt.) Until I find the ideal place to live, though, at least I can find sandy winter beaches in Second Life. (Like this place, in the Cape Florida sim.)

Casual in Royal Blue

Pants outfit and jacket from Royal Blue

I’ve been at configuring, tweaking and generally messing with my “new” computer setup — actually just Windows 7 on the old box, but with more memory — that I’d almost forgotten about this pair of photos I’d taken before the Troubles started.  To be fully truthful, I’d also planned on adding a dress to this shoot; however, the skirt showed my rump to full, glorious effect, and I could never get the thing adjusted correctly.  So, pants it is again.

But some very nice pants, and an excellent top and jacket to go with them.  I’m sure I’ve said this before, but I am not adverse to casual wear.  I’ve just fallen in love with the spectacular gowns that can be purchased in Second Life.  My tastes have run toward fabulous evening gowns since I saw all those classic Vogue magazines of the Fifties and early Sixties, and ads in equally vintage magazines like National Geographic as a kid.  Once in a while, though, you have to let your hair down instead of up.  (Or instead of sideways, as my Tales from Insilico were.)

Everything except the hair and boots came from a lovely store I found called Royal Blue.  I don’t recognize the name, but they have some excellent stuff there, and this batch of separates I put together come under that rubric.  I really should have taken off the jacket at least once to show you the top I’m wearing, called (I’m serious here!) Body Con Is Not Dead.  I added to them the pants, named Meow for I am Catwoman, and this delicious blazer, called (ahem) a Preppy Blazer.  (Well, not all the names are strange there….)

You’ve seen my Celtic cross necklace in other articles, so I won’t belabor it here.  What I did do was pull a nice bob haircut and ankle boots out of inventory, as well as these shades I picked up during the Accessory Fair, and added a big chunky necklace I also picked up at Royal Blue (but what the name is I cannot remember now for the life of me), as well as some new dangle earrings from EarthStones.  Just the thing for tripping down a dock to your boat!
