Christmas Eve 2018   Leave a comment

As always on this night, we of Around the Grid bring you our joint wishes for the future, as voiced by Bing Crosby and David Bowie —

From Conan, Jem, Diana, Morgan and myself, may the day of peace eternal come to this troubled world for us, for you … for us all. And remember that all of us — every son and daughter of the Divine, however you see the Divine — are the parents and nurturers of that peace. It is up to us to bring it, somehow.

I was gonna invoke shades of The Nutcracker here, but this area doesn’t quite fit the bill. Oh, well, lol. It’s still pretty, though.

I’ve developed a partiality for United Colors, and this gown is one of their best. Lots of colors available, and you can choose either opaque or nicely sheer. (I’d go for the opaque for the party season, myself, but I don’t know what parties you’ll be going to ….)

Christmas Eve 2015

An old tradition here at Around the Grid, Bing Crosby and David Bowie in a duet from Bing’s last Christmas special

=====

…The days are surely coming, says the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this is the name by which it will be called: “The LORD is our righteousness.”

…The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.  In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. Christmas Eve 2012

An old tradition here at Around the Grid, Bing Crosby and David Bowie from his last Christmas special

=====

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;
And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth….

Merry Christmas 2010

And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks:  nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Isaiah 2:2-4, King James Version

=====

The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep
your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God,
and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of
God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be
amongst you, and remain with you always.

The Book of Common Prayer, The Episcopal Church in the United States, Rite One Eucharist (The Dismissal)

As always, I wish you and yours this supremely wonderful peace, now and for your future days and years.  May you have a very merry Christmas, and may we truly find the time in the coming year when the swords shall be beaten into plowshares….
