Tales from Insilico — Suffering for Her Art

Read Part I here….

Caution:  some situations in this story, and some pictures involving nudity, should be considered NSFW/NSS

Jadzia lay curled up on the cot in the side room, seriously regretting every recent moment of her existence. This has to be the last damned time, she thought to herself as the nausea began rising up again.  As she edged her head over the side of the cot to find the hurl bucket, her mind went over the past twenty-seven hours of station time….

It had been over three months since she had finally paid off the “photo-etched” skin mod she had obtained at a “black” biolab; but the attention she had hoped for from talent scouts had never come.  Jadzia knew they were jaded in appetite, of course; they had seen it all and then some, it seemed, and you really had to be maybe a parsec out there now to even catch a glimpse from them, let alone get the attention of an agent.  But she thought this mod would have done it for sure!

There was only one thing for it — to try again, or to go back to selling herself in a different way.  Being a courtesan meant peddling her body, or at least certain portions of it, but being Shayana had paid the bills.  And she had been good at it, too, pleasuring both herself and her clients, and acquiring something of a reputation for it.  But you could only do so much whoring before something started seeping into your soul.  Remembering the peace she had felt that night in Atonement, the abandoned church-turned-club, Jadzia’s small core of self-pride asserted itself, and she resolved to try one more time.  She booked the appointment — not as obviously as calling a more reputable clinic to “set up an appointment,” of course — and showed up the night specified.

The Highest Boot Uppers in Second Life?

When I was going around the military regions the other day, I thought I’d give the boys in world some inspiration; let ’em know what they’re fightin’ for, you know.  And it gave me a chance to show off one of my latest finds:

Tuskegee 3

The folks at B&G Shoes make no claim; but it’s my opinion that these are the boots with the longest set of uppers in Second Life.  If there are any taller, send me a picture, and I’ll publish it!  I’m not particularly into all those buckles, but they work for these boots for some reason.  The set is scripted for sizing and sound, with the pretty much usual controls:  click on the left in a script-allowed region, and select from the menu.

The details (shape/skin/eyes are my current standard):

  • PixelDolls Stephanie corset
  • DnG black leather shorts
  • Kiss Cassandra hair (Arizona shade, large size) (Elke Banting)
  • B&G Sendra boots (black) (BG Planer)
  • Digit Darkes Tintable Glitter nail polish (silver)
  • Jewelry:  Dahlinks BoHo silver hoop earrings (Alexandra Nichols); PixelDolls Stone Pendant necklace (lapis lazuli) (Dolce Blackflag); G&S silver ring with bezel emerald (right hand) (Biff Stine); Yabusaka silver ring style 01 (color-changing stone, set to sapphire); 77 Designs women’s gift watch (available [last I knew] in BBC World sim) (left hand) (Anik Goff); eyecandy Hellenic Copper/Turquoise Cuff (Candy Cerveau)

And with this article, I’ve done it; seven days straight of publishing articles for the Big Bad Blog Challenge.  It’s been an interesting thing, and kept me hunting for ideas for articles.  I’m not sure if I can keep this string running, but it’s kept my writing fingers tapping at the keys (grin).

Casual Tuesday in Second Life

Most of my fashion sessions are in gowns; and I’ll admit that I love the swirl of silk and satin about me at night.  (Which is a good thing, since Frank’s Place (SLurl, other articles) is my favorite club in Second Life.)  “Gowns” is probably the second largest item in my Inventory after “Hair.”

But let’s face it; it isn’t nighttime all the time.  (Unless you keep your environment settings locked on “sunset” or “evening.”)  You gotta have the sun as well as the moon, the yang as well as the yin.  And you can look just as good in casuals as you can in a floaty Nicky Ree or Baiastice.

There’s a lovely little coffeehouse in Rainforest Isle Estates called the Drip ‘n Grind.  I like to pop in there once in a while when I’m not hanging out of a morning at the Blarney Stone.  Not the place for a gown, most times of the day; it’s not a “rough” neighborhood, of course (who’d set up a coffeehouse in the Badlands?), but this wasn’t anywhere near after-club clubbin’ time, when you’d stop in for a cuppa joe and some pie or eggs Benedict.  So something a little more casual is called for.

Apocalypto

I’m plotting a review of Hair Fair 2008 — my first Hair Fair, it should be noted — for a future article.  For now, though, I’m looking at some pieces that I bought before I started slogging through the treacle fudge of the Rezzable sims (grin).

Specifically, this:

(There are three more pictures, including the entire outfit I created, at my Flickr stream.)

The story behind this:  I first spotted the wig on the head of Bettina Tizzy in her own stream.  If you haven’t learned how much I love spiraly, spiky, massive hair that’s bigger than a Baltimore B-52 and Not Possible in Real Life, read this old article (whose offer is no longer in effect, as Sinnocent’s dog is all better [grin]).  So you can guess that I just had to turn my nose up at this design (bigger laugh).

However, the hair is not a separate (unless we can bug the designer enough; then maybe he’ll consider!).  It comes as part of a post-apocalypse package called Survivor from AVZ, and this is what the rest of the costume looks like:

I especially like the breastplates made out of cogwheels (grin).  I’d actually have no problems wearing this if I was running around the Junkyard — very Tina Turner out of Mad Max:  Beyond Thunderdome — but I just didn’t feel like this at the moment.  So it became mashup time.  For more and better picturs of the final results, see my Flickr set; the details are:

  • Shape/skin:  Issigoni (Ayumi)
  • Hair, beads, and the bracer on the left wrist:  AVZ Survivor (from the full costume; not available as a separate)
  • Eyes:  Gaslights Emporium (jade green)
  • Corset:  Last Call (Milena) (no longer available)
  • Shorts:  DnG black leather
  • Boots:  DollyRock — the tallest boots I’ve found yet in the uppers!  (Not inside the main store; shoes are in an outlier storefront on the property)
  • Duster:  TorkTastic simple leather coat

Better running around in than a steel bikini, wouldn’t you say?

Frankly, as you can see from the last picture in the set — I finally found some good light for a closeup this morning — this is a hairstyle that you could study for an hour.  AVZ spent a lot of time (and prims) constructing this wig, and it has all sorts of goodies in it, from the network of steel rods to the little baubles that decorate it.
