Summertime, and the Livin’ is Easy   Leave a comment

Summertime, and the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’ and the cotton is high
Oh, your daddy’s rich and your ma is good-lookin’
So hush, little baby, don’t you cry

“Summertime,” lyrics by DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin

One of the things I don’t like about living in the South is the heat in the summer.  As I always say when someone thinks I’m insane for wanting to move back to Michigan year round, “You can dress for the cold.  You can’t undress for the heat — legally.”

Well, at least you can dress as lightly as possible; that helps a little.  This outfit by Liziaah does the trick quite nicely.

Happy Mother’s Day

Dreaming of My Mother

I’m taking a quick moment to think about my mother and all she did for me back in the day.  I miss you and love you, Mom….

EarthStones Family Tree of Life Pendant

If you would like to commemorate your own Real Life family, stop by EarthStones and pick up the Family Tree of Life necklace.  You can purchase it with up to seven scripted birthstones; this one has four, for me, my husband and our two children.  One of Abraxxa’s nicest pieces!

Q is for — Quartz

Q is for Quartz

No, Q is not for “queen,” although that would be the easiest thing.  (How many of us girls don’t have a few royal costumes socked away in inventory [grin]?)  I wanted something different.  Quartz is also a “common” available item, but not as common as royalty, I suspect.  So, for Vanessa Blaylock’s alphabetical inventory challenge, I pulled out these Ruffle Around earrings with quartz centers.  They’re probably best for a daytime look, but they have some versatility to them, depending on the nighttime dress you choose.

F is for — Furisode

F is for Furisode 1

Furisode (振袖) is Japanese, referring to the extremely long arm style on formal kimono worn by young unmarried women.  I can’t say how many of us in Second Life enjoy walking about in a kimono, but I do on occasion, even putting on “Keiko,” my Asian character from my stories, for the moment (as I have here).  And, since it was time to update the kimono I have in my Inventory, I went to the currently running Japan Fair 2014 to pick up a new one or two, preferably in mesh.  I found this magnificent one in the clothing section, made by AZUL, which is probably really meant for a wedding.  The fabric is all white silk, and it’s in the uchikake style (打掛), with a brocaded “overcoat” over the actual gown and obi sash.

F is for Furisode 3

I went looking for a hairstyle to fit it as well; and I discovered a booth by Tukinowaguma!  I realize that I said in my previous article that this house of fabulously complex hair was moribund, though still open, but it now appears I’m happily mistaken.  Hopefully KateForster Akina is rested and refreshed and ready to kick out lots of new styles for us, both Japanese and western.

E is for — Ebony

E is for Ebony 1

Ebony is the theme for today’s paw through my inventory; and the ebony here is represented by almost everything I’m wearing.  The hair is the item that began this plunge, an old, elaborate updo from Tukinowaguma.  Tuki hasn’t released any new styles in a very long time, but the store is still in existence, if much reduced in size from what it was at the apex of their success.  (I wonder if it was an inability to cope with the change to mesh that did them in?  Some of their longer styles could benefit from a mesh treatment, so they don’t get lost in your shoulders.)

E is for Ebony 2

The gown is also vintage, a nicely poufy piece from Sascha Frangilli; and the suite of onyx jewels come from EarthStones.  Everything is listed below.
