Chillin’ Together

Harper, Jem and Conan

Nothing sensational today; just a photo of us on my patio yesterday, before we got down to work on a massive  photo project.  I’ve come up with an idea or two for a new story, and Conan and Jem are willing to help in the storyboarding and illustration.  It’s good to have some help these days; it doesn’t get the articles written or published any faster, necessarily, but it also lets me do more in some areas, and brings in some fresh eyes.

I’ve often used Second Life as my platform for bringing my stories to life — or, alternatively, for writing stories that frame the photos I take for the blog and Flickr.  It’s hard work, and it can get expensive, but it can be fun, too.  You’ll see a shortened version of this story on the blog at some point in the future, if all goes well.  Heads up / shout out to Poulet Koenkamp and PurpleMoon — your goodies will be featured!

Thoughts of a Resident Surfer, Looking for Entertainment

Here's to the Internet blog size

Here’s to the Internet!
Creation of universities
enabler of communications
storehouse of knowledge
repository of porn
facilitator of spies
playground of trolls
destroyer of newspapers
source of unending fascination

except for me

Ten million bloody channels
everyone shouting at the top of their lungs
to be heard
appreciated
loved
idolized
and commented on
and I can’t find a bloody thing to watch on Hulu

Hmmm
What’s this thing here…?
I think it’s called a “book”

Guess I’ll give it a go….

The Triumph of a Heart

Eshi Otawara comes up with yet another avant-garde confection that has to be seen to be believed. Harper Beresford features the gown at her blog, and gives us a fantastic photo spread to show the details.

A Passion for Virtual Fashion

The Triumph of a Heart

The nerves are sending shimmering signals
All through my fingers
The veins support
Blood that gushes impulsively towards
Is the triumph of a heart that gives all
That gives all
The triumph of a heart that gives all
That gives all

~ “Triumph of a Heart” by Bjork

The Triumph of a Heart

The song fits. The connection is perfect. Eshi Otawara is releasing her first ensemble in quite a while, just in time for Valentine’s Day, and it is a triumph of the heart. With the bold red and black feathering, its intricate waist and bustle, its well… triumphant head piece, Eshi gives us that pulsing passionate art that we have missed so much in the past year. Look closely and you see Eshi packs this piece with passion, from the animated red pulses running up the swirls to the cosmic anemones in the headpiece to the side veils streaked with red edges.

Pink Shirt Day 2010 (Updated x2)

PinkShirts_05 copy, originally uploaded by Arcadia Nightfire.

When the idea was suggested yesterday on Plurk to do a group pose for today’s Pink Shirt Day, I was glad to volunteer for the job.  I’d had such fun back in my early days, when I did an instant photoshoot with my good friends Cajsa Lilliehook and Gidge Uriza of It’s Only Fashion, that I’d been hoping to do something like this again.  So I dashed off to XStreet and found a nice pink corset — yeah, I know, it isn’t a shirt, but pink tops aren’t my thing; I can handle a pink corset, though.  And, at the appropriate time, I hit the blocks along with all the other suspects for the above photo, taken by Arcadia Nightfire of MDR Photo.

The partners in crime:

Back row (l-r): Tymmerie Thorne, SySy Chapman, Aldwyn Zanzibar, Chandni Khondji, Arcadia Nightfire, Kyria Tomsen, Lavea Alter, and Addison Mortlock

Front row: Harper Ganesvoort, December Dollinger, and Gabby Panacek

=====

Thanks much, Arcadia, from a former victim of bullying, for an opportunity to stand up against this very real RL scourge.

=====

UPDATE: Arcadia has written up the picture and the campaign better than me, on her own blog.  Also read Gidge Uriza’s personal story at It’s Only Fashion.
