It’s Jem’s Fault   4 comments

This is what the new house looks like from the land side. I had to temporarily derezz some of the trees in front to show it.

The weird thing about houses is that they almost always look like nothing is happening inside of them, even though they contain most of our lives. I wondered if that was sort of the point of architecture.

Home Again   1 comment

Like love, breakfast is best when made at home.

Gina Barreca

I wasn’t planning on writing again so soon; but events kind of bumped my schedule up a bit, as I thought I’d share this bump in my Second Life with everyone.

Now I know a little … just a little … how Harper felt when she went through a bunch of moves some years back. The sudden pulling of the rug from under your elegantly-shod feet at the general notice from the landlord, followed by the scramble to pack up everything you’ve laid out just so; and then the hunt to find somewhere else to lay your stuff back down, within both your budget and your land impact needs. And then, of course, the discovery of stuff you missed by the old landlord; with luck, you’ll get them back when they clear remaining objects off the sim.

Well, the bad news is that that’s what happened to me on Monday. (To Diana, too, since she shares digs with me.)

Hey, Daddy!   2 comments

Hey, listen to my story ’bout a gal named Daisy Mae
Lazy Daisy Mae
Her disposition is rather sweet and charming
At times alarming, so they say
She has a man who’s tall dark handsome, large and strong
To whom she used to sing this song

Hey, Daddy
I want a diamond ring
Bracelets and everything
Daddy, you oughta get the best for me

Hey, Daddy, gee
Don’t I look great in sables?
Clothes with Paris labels?
Daddy, you oughta get the best for me

Her Heart is Water   Leave a comment

Her heart is water, its own self its stay.
It will be fog or cloud or haze, or frail
Mists that wander after daylight pale.
It will be all things: the sea’s salty spray
White in the wind, cast fuming on a shore
Stone-desolate; a river’s liquid song;
A fountain wearing jewels for a throng
Of dancing waves; a pool forevermore
Quiet under leaves gold-rimmed, death-black;
A sea-mirror; or, made of sweet love dreaming,
A crystal well; a molten river gleaming
Under hot sun, flame following its track;
Falls rapids; wild water of storm and trouble;
Or, being quit of love, a gay bubble.

James J. Ryan, “Her Heart is Water.” Poetry Magazine vol. 33, no. 5 (February 1929), p. 240.

Moonlight   2 comments

There’s some interesting things at the current events and the Fantasy Faire, but I decided to dip into my back Inventory, and stumbled across this dress. Conan was kind enough to serve as mon bel amour for a shot (well, he does live in Québec), and here we are.

Moonlight becomes you
It goes with your hair
You certainly know
The right thing to wear

Moonlight becomes you
And I’m thrilled at the sight
And we could get
So romantic tonight

Under the Tuscan Sun   Leave a comment

… Stone houses, terrace walls, city walls, streets. Plant any rose and you hit four or five big ones. All the Etruscan sarcophagi with likenesses of the dead carved on top in realistic, living poses must have come out of the most natural transference into death they could imagine. After lifetimes of dealing with stone, why not, in death, turn into it? …

Salt Water Sunset   3 comments

… Soon it got dusk, a grapy dusk, a purple dusk over tangerine groves and long melon fields; the sun the color of pressed grapes, slashed with burgandy red, the fields the color of love and Spanish mysteries ….

Jack Kerouac, On the Road

… The sun is setting in a burnt orange sky; the cliffs are black silhouettes; the sea, liquid silver ….

Laura Treacy Bentley, The Silver Tattoo

… Bright colours in the west, giant butterflies dancing as night crept like a cripple toward the east ….
