Our Lady of the Bloomenveldt   Leave a comment

Jem sent me some photos she’d squeezed in recently, but didn’t have the chance to write up.  As it happened, I’d recently re-read Norman Spinrad’s Child of Fortune, which I recommend to you at some point; and the size of some of the flowers in LEA15’s Gardens By the Bay reminded me of that book.  If you don’t get the context of the quotations, I suggest you buy the book.  It is fun, it is erotic, and it will make you think about what our society could be like if we tried out the social philosophy of Sunshine’s Second Starfaring Age.

“Vraiment, all present here do surely know that the spirit of Belshazaar, the raison d’être for your own presence on this planet, resides not in this grim gray city of lifeless glass and stone, but across the sea atop the mighty Bloomenwald, where the great flowers exude the psychotropic substances upon which your economic vie depends, and which is the sole fame of Belshazaar among the far-flung worlds of men!”…

“I stand before you as one who has wandered deeper into the Bloomenveldt than any human spirit may safely go, who has walked among the fabled Bloomenkinder, seen the legendary Perfumed Garden of floral perfection, lost my élan humain to the puissant flowers, been rescued therefrom by the Pied Piper of the Bloomenveldt, and returned to this very corner upon which I now stand to regale you, good citizens of Ciudad Pallas, with this mighty tale!”…

“Hearken therefore to the tale of the Pied Piper of the Bloomenveldt! Learn of the wonders and terrors and the true nature of the forest of unreason upon which the very life of this city depends!  Hear of the bodhis of the Bloomenveldt!  Cringe at the depths to which the human spirit may descend!  Glory at the power of the Word to bring that selfsame spirit back from the ancestral flowers to full sapient awareness!  Listen to the tale of the Pied Piper of the Bloomenveldt…and in the process become once more true Children of our species’ Fortune on the Yellow Brick Road from tropism and determinism to sovereign captaincy of the great arkologies and gallant Void Ships which have made us the masters of the stars!”…

We’re All Alone

We're All Alone 1

I love doing “duet” sessions with Conan when he gets the chance. He cleans up nicely, and he’s gradually getting even better looking as time goes on. Here, we’re at part of the current exhibit in LEA25, which has a few spots we can work with. A good thing on the last, as scripts are disabled there; neither of us were able to use AnyPose for smiles or eye movement, even when we added it off sim and jumped back in. But we’re adaptable, if nothing else.

Outside the rain begins
And it may never end
So cry no more, on the shore a dream
Will take us out to sea
Forevermore, forevermore

We're All Alone 2

Conan is in a very nice formal suit from Prism for Men, on the same sim as the women’s store. A HUD gives you two shirt colors and for different tie patterns.  As for me, I’m in a dress I discovered from ArisAris on the Marketplace, also HUD driven, with Zuri jewelry (currently new, and so available to members for 25% off), and a pair of half-length gloves from Valentina E. exclusively for Maitreya Lara.  These are just one set in an extremely fair gacha at the current round of Whimsical; and, while not perfect — the hand is very rigid looking — the colors are excellent for all types.  I put together the whole collection with very little “investment” in duplicates.

Close your eyes and dream
And you can be with me
‘Neath the waves, through the cave of hours
Long forgotten now
We’re all alone, we’re all alone

Close the window, calm the light
And it will be all right
No need to bother now
Let it out, let it all begin
Learn how to pretend

We're All Alone 4

Love in the shadows — a wonderful thing.

Once a story’s told
It can’t help but grow old
Roses do, lovers too, so cast
Your seasons to the wind
And hold me dear, oh, hold me dear

We're All Alone 3

So much for stargazing…because you are all the stars in the sky for me.

Close the window, calm the light
And it will be all right
No need to bother now
Let it out, let it all begin
All’s forgotten now
We’re all alone, all alone

We're All Alone 5

Scroll on down for a live performance of “We’re All Alone” by the songwriter and original singer, Boz Scaggs.

Close the window, calm the light
And it will be all right
No need to bother now
Let it out, let it all begin
Owe it to the wind, my love

Revisiting Light Thoughts 2

Jem visited an LEA exhibit called Light Thoughts 2 back in March.  I took a pass through there this past week, and found that it had been added to considerably since then, so I shot some fresh photos:

Liquid Light

Light Thoughts 1

One way Harper got me into this crazy world was the promise that I could be as alien as I wanted to be, almost anywhere I went.  I won’t say I’ve hit the limit yet.  As I get cash to add more stuff into my inventory, I’m trying out more and more things, and having lots of fun!  And I can see how much Harper loves dressing up in her gold skin, which I haven’t gotten yet myself.  (I may soon!)

One place to pick up things for a spacey look was the Metaverse event, which closed a few days ago.  The nice thing is that we did some research between us, and you can get most of the goodies from that event at the vendors’ main stores.  Remember, you don’t need to do all your shopping at events!  These designers have beautiful stores that they would like to keep open as well, and they deserve some “Linden love” (right?) there as well.

Anyway, I found this dress from Plastik at Metaverse, and had to get several different colors.  Here’s a hint, by the way — you may still want to go to the main stores if you really love something, because I found more colors for this dress at Plastik’s store in their own vendor, instead of at the event.  They didn’t have everything at Metaverse.  As it worked out, I still needed to “dye” this dress, which Harper showed me how to do; it was no problem at all.

Between the Shadow and the Soul

LEA 8 wallpaper 2

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

LEA29 Art Exhibit — Disturbing and Thoughtful

Cammino e Vivo Capovolto, LEA29_010

The current exhibition in LEA region 29, entitled Cammino e Vivo Capovolto, is not easy to fathom, as most abstract forms of art are.  What occurs to me, on seeing the various dissolving human bodies, is the fragmentation of attention and culture under the assault of everything vying for our time in these years — including computer cultures such as social media and Second Life itself.  Many critics accuse the computer’s seductive appeal as breaking down the bonds and bounds of human society and interaction.  Or could it be that things are breaking down merely to reshape themselves into a new form that may be more powerful, tighter than before?  Time will have to tell, and we will have to stay on guard to ensure that it doesn’t go the other way.

Draw your own conclusions on this; you can examine the photos I took, including the above, at my Flickr stream under the album Cammino e Vivo Capovolto.  Or, even better, teleport to the region while the exhibition is still in place, and turn on the music, and see what the builds say to you.  This is usually the best way to appreciate modern art — to see what comes out of the deeps of your heart and mind and soul when you look at the images.
