Hallowe’en 2014 — Witchy Woman

Witchy Woman 1

Raven hair* and ruby lips
Sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night
She’s a restless spirit on an endless flight

Woo hoo, witchy woman
See how high she flies
Woo hoo, witchy woman
She got the moon in her eyes

Crying In the Chapel

You saw me crying in the chapel.
The tears I shed were tears of joy
I know the meaning of contentment
Now I am happy with the Lord

Just a plain and simple chapel
Where humble people go to pray
I pray the Lord that I’ll grow stronger
As I live from day to day

I’ve searched and I’ve searched
But I couldn’t find
No way on earth
To gain peace of mind

Now I’m happy in the chapel
Where people are of one accord
Yes,we gather in the chapel
Just to sing and praise the Lord

You’ll search and you’ll search
But you’ll never find
No way on earth
To gain peace of mind

Take your troubles to the chapel
Get down on your knees and pray
Then your burdens will be lighter
And you’ll surely find the way

  • “Crying In the Chapel,” written by Artie Glenn; performed by Elvis Presley, Don McLean, et al.

Everyone at my RL church is praying for the wife of our pianist and choirmaster, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.  This is one of the causes often worked for in Second Life, and I hope you’ll join me in prayer, and in thanks for all the good our donations have done to make breast cancer one of the more survivable forms we know of today.  It’s still nothing to be complacent about — witness my prayers here at the Anglican Cathedral on Epiphany — but she has a better chance today than she would have had just 30 or 40 years ago.

Everything Old is New Again

When trumpets were mellow
And every gal only had one fellow
No need to remember when
‘Cause everything old is new again

Dancin’ at your Long Island Jazz Age party
Waiter bring us some more Bacardi
We’ll order now what they ordered then
‘Cause everything old is new again

Get out your white suit, your tap shoes and tails
Let’s go backwards when forward fails
And movie stars you thought were long dead
Now are framed beside your bed

Don’t throw the past away
You might need it some rainy day
Dreams can come true again
When everything old is new again

Several stores in Second Life specialize in making everything old new again.  This gown, which I believe channels Dior’s New Look as well as some delicious Eighties confections, comes from Donna Flora.  I discovered it while I was going through Flickr photostreams, and hunted through her stores until I discovered it at the Bonin store in several colors.

The lovely thing about this dress:  the bodice hem and butterfly bow.  They can change color using a HUD script; you have some eight color choices, I believe.  I wear blue so much that I decided to go red this time to get a little richer color into my life (grin).

Get out your white suit, your tap shoes and tails
Put it on backwards when forward fails
Better leave Greta Garbo alone
Be a movie star on your own

And don’t throw the past away
You might need it some other rainy day
Dreams can come true again
When everything old is new again

Stormy Weather

Keeps rainin' all the time....

Don’t know why there’s no sun up in the sky
Stormy weather since my man and I ain’t together
Keeps raining all the time, the time
Life is bare, gloom and misery everywhere
Stormy weather, just can’t get my poor self together
I’m weary all the time, the time
So weary all the time

When he went, you went away, the blues walked in and met me
If he stays away, ol’ rocking chair will get me
All I do is pray, the Lord above will let me walk in the sun once more

Can’t go on, everything I had is gone
Stormy weather since my man and I ain’t together
It’s raining all the time

One of the finest singers the Real World has known passed away a few days ago.  Miss Lena Horne had known both sides of the blues, the pain and the delight, in her 92 years.  I think she emerged on the high side at the end.

Her signature song, of course, was “Stormy Weather,” and that’s what I based these photos on.  But if you want to hear the woman herself, just click on play….
