The Advantages of Floating in the Middle of the Sea

Prism Carolina 1

…The advantages go on and on
In the middle of the sea.
As the centuries have come, they’ve gone
In the middle of the sea.
Days arise to be replaced,
Lines are drawn and lines erased.
Life and death are but verses in a poem.
Out there blood flows …
Who knows?…

The lyrics, from Stephen Sondheim’s Pacific Overtures, tell of how Japan was in the years before Commodore Matthew Perry broke the ban against foreigners and trade with other countries in 1853. His “four black dragons” — American steam-powered warships — arrived in a land very much like the world you find in Taka no Sakura, a build of a classic Japanese village from the feudal period. Other things seem to float at times — like a beautiful strapless dress. Prism offers us the new Carolina dress, a lovely strapless cocktail gown in three different colors, with rich patterning on the overskirt and bustier, and a jewel-buckle belt.

Prism Carolina 2

…Here we paint screens,
Plant the rice,
Arrange the flowers,
View the moon,
Exchange the gifts,
Plant the rice,
Arrange tomorrow like today to float,…

Simplicity seems to be called for here, and so I choose one of the simpler sets of jewelry from Lazuri — still chunky and substantial, but much less heavy than other of her collections.  It is HUD driven, like most of her pieces; each one can be controlled individually, or you can click on the necklace to change the metal and major gems on all pieces simultaneously.

Prism Carolina 3

…Slide the screens,
Exchange the poems,
Stir the tea,
Exchange the bows,
Plant the rice,
Arrange tomorrow to be like today,
To float….

The hair is from sYs, and is a lovely progressive style, while the makeup and nail polish goes along with the blue dress and gold jewelry.

Circle In The Sand

Circle In The Sand 2

Sundown all around
Walking through the summer’s end
Waves crash
Baby don’t look back
I won’t walk away again

Circle In The Sand 3

Oooooh, baby, anywhere you go
We are bound together
I begin, baby, where you end
Some things are forever

Circle in the sand, ’round and ’round
Neverending love is what we’ve found
And you complete the heart of me
Our love is all we need
Circle in the sand, circle in the sand

— “Circle In the Sand” by Ellen Shipley and Rick Nowels; performed by Belinda Carlisle

E is for — Ebony

E is for Ebony 1

Ebony is the theme for today’s paw through my inventory; and the ebony here is represented by almost everything I’m wearing.  The hair is the item that began this plunge, an old, elaborate updo from Tukinowaguma.  Tuki hasn’t released any new styles in a very long time, but the store is still in existence, if much reduced in size from what it was at the apex of their success.  (I wonder if it was an inability to cope with the change to mesh that did them in?  Some of their longer styles could benefit from a mesh treatment, so they don’t get lost in your shoulders.)

E is for Ebony 2

The gown is also vintage, a nicely poufy piece from Sascha Frangilli; and the suite of onyx jewels come from EarthStones.  Everything is listed below.

Last Day at Fiera — Fast Note

Last Day at Fiera 1

If you follow me on Plurk, you know I’ve been out of town.  I got back in time to check out the last day of the Fiera avant-garde event, and picked up a few things I’m wearing here from Zibska, along with other goodies from various stores.  This outfit doesn’t really scream avant garde to me, but it’s excellent and can work for multiple occasions.

Oscars Redux — I’m Jennifer Lawrence!

I'm Jennifer Lawrence 1 Jennifer Lawrence 1

Yes, this year’s Academy Awards are behind us; the OFPC is in bed until next January; but I couldn’t resist this dress when I came across it a week or so ago.  It’s just so darn close to what Jennifer Lawrence wore to this year’s ceremony in RL!  The two differences I can see are a richer red on the in-world dress (Jennifer’s, as you can see, was an orange-y color), and an extremely low back on my dress.  Not surprising on the last, though; this dress was worked up by Pure Poison, and Shaleene Kenin has a definite reputation for sexy apparel.

I'm Jennifer Lawrence 2

I tried to get fairly close to Jennifer’s actual look when I put this shoot together, but there are inevitable differences.  My hairstyle is fuller than hers, and I couldn’t find a shoulder collar necklace like hers, let alone one that draped down the back.  (Lawrence — or her stylist — seems to have a liking for this, as she wore a back-duster in 2013 as well.)  I chose to add in a grace note of color as well, thus the EarthStones watch on my wrist.  All in all, a delicious look!

Wait, Wait, Don’t Rezz Me….

Waiting is what I was doing when I went into Crimarizon region yesterday.  It’s a beautiful build, that is most definite.  The problem with many a beautiful build, of course, is that it’s also lag hell.  I know; that’s the price we pay for beauty.  And the pose HUD and expression HUD, as well as my normal AO HUD running in standby in the background, probably didn’t help the Cause any on my part. But, when textures refuse to rezz for five minutes or more (or at least it felt like it; I was in a RL hurry), it starts getting frustrating.

So here I am, sitting on a wall instead of posing in a lovely arcade of archways I found when I had the time to walk through and let things rezz up. When I’d went to shoot the photo spread before, I locked up, and then got a boot crash — as in I got the boot out of Second Life by crashing. I never could get everything to rezz back up completely. I think my feelings are quite nicely expressed by the mood of this shot I took — in front of a stone temple wall, and frustrated as grudging forgiveness.

Ah, well; you can see the clothes I’m wearing — a lovely organic silk dress from League that I fought my way to at Collarbor88. Read on and get the details, which are:
