Shovel Sand, Not Snow

My fellow bloggers all say they enjoy the snow. Me, I look forward to retiring one day so somewhere a tad warmer in the winter than State College, thank you. Not too warm; I don’t want to exchange the freezer of wintertime Pennsylvania for a broiler during the summer. (Who knows? maybe I’d better not worry about it and just live with what I get dealt.) Until I find the ideal place to live, though, at least I can find sandy winter beaches in Second Life. (Like this place, in the Cape Florida sim.)

Feathers and Shine On the Giant’s Causeway

In the north of Ireland is a stretch of basalt columns known as the Giant’s Causeway, formed by a volcanic eruption. As the lava cooled while welling up from the ocean floor, it formed itself into hexagonal pillars that stretch out some meters from the actual coast itself. The locals, however, would have it different — they will tell you that the rocks are the remains of a bridge, rubble from the nearby coast which was dropped there by the Irish giant Finn mac Cumhaill to make a road to Scotland, there to fight an enemy. ‘Tis said that, on finding that the Scot was twice as large as he was, he beat a strategic retreat back to Ireland, where he was hidden, disguised as a baby. When the Scot discovered the “baby,” and saw his size, he had to reckon that Finn must be of a monstrous size indeed, and legged it home himself, tearing up the causeway behind him.

Happy New Year 2019

As I’m writing this, it’s just coming up to midnight SLT on New Year’s Eve. It’s been a hell of a past year in the Real World for sure, and we can only (and surely) pray that the next will be better than the last. It’ll take a little time to get that going … and a lot of work by all of us to make it happen … but we can do this if we persist.

May that which you perceive as the Divine, hold and guard both you and yours as this year goes on!

Christmas Fashion 3 — Christmas in Babbage

Unlike Harper, who was exploring the spiritual side of Christmas, or Jem, who decided to freeze herself outside, Morgan and me went for a nice, warm room in Babbage.
