“Black Coffee, Babe!”

It is inhumane, in my opinion, to force people who have a genuine medical need for coffee to wait in line behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity.

These days, it seems, you gotta have something else besides just the coffee — you need a great coffeehouse to serve the brew up. And not just the coffee, but the ever-essential pastries and sandwiches and juices. I suspect (based on my reading; I’m not that old) that anyone who hung out in a Sixties beatnik coffeehouse, and then was dropped into a modern Starbucks, would shriek in horror, and demand that they immediately go back to serving just coffee, right that instant (no, not instant coffee), or she would explain to them the absurdity of all human activity, and let them struggle with the existential shock.

Myself, I prefer the modern decadence. Comfortable chairs, soft music, good munchies as well as coffee (in a host of varieties), and … most important … power strips. (Well, you gotta charge your phone while you’re there!)

From this and that, I suspect that the Burrow Coffee Co. is the newest cafe in Second Life, and I’ve joined the group to give it a try. It looks to hit all the notes, and then some — lots of wood paneling, lots of chairs and conversation nooks, dance floors, even a community board. The one thing I’d encourage them to do is put in dispensing vendors, instead of just props.

Also, the barista seems just a little one-dimensional. (Though he’s cute!)

American coffee can be a pale solution served at a temperature of 100 degrees centigrade in plastic thermos cups, usually obligatory in railroad stations for purposes of genocide, whereas coffee made with an American percolator, such as you find in private houses or in humble luncheonettes, served with eggs and bacon, is delicious, fragrant, goes down like pure spring water, and afterwards causes severe palpitations, because one cup contains more caffeine than four espressos.
