From Hair Fair 2015 — sYs Micha

Hair Fair is among us again, and the crowds should have eased a little by now. I, however, was one of the foolish, uh, brave ones who plunged into the thick of things on the first night and worked my way, walk or cam, through all four sims. I came up with several items, among which is what I have on my head now, from sYs.

…When at dawn she sighs, and like an infant to the window
Turns grave eyes craving light, released from dreams,
Beautiful she looks, like a white water-lily
Bursting out of bud in havens of the streams.
When from bed she rises clothed from neck to ankle
In her long nightgown sweet as boughs of May,
Beautiful she looks, like a tall garden lily
Pure from the night, and splendid for the day….

If I’m going to be wearing fresh hair, I might as well be wearing fresh clothes, and so I dropped into Junbug. Their region has a large pond in the middle with a board walkway circling it. There is a great supply of water lilies and waterweed there, which gave me the idea to look up a poem involving lilies.

…When her mother tends her before the laughing mirror,
Tying up her laces, looping up her hair,
Often she thinks, were this wild thing wedded,
More love should I have, and much less care.
When her mother tends her before the lighted mirror,
Loosening her laces, combing down her curls,
Often she thinks, were this wild thing wedded,
I should miss but one for many boys and girls….

A concern: I wish I could remove the pin in the wig which you see here, at least at times. A minor objection, but I hope Systi will consider making this “disappearable” in future.

…Cool was the woodside; cool as her white dairy
Keeping sweet the cream-pan; and there the boys from school,
Cricketing below, rushed brown and red with sunshine;
O the dark translucence of the deep-eyed cool!
Spying from the farm, herself she fetched a pitcher
Full of milk, and tilted for each in turn the beak.
Then a little fellow, mouth up and on tiptoe,
Said, “I will kiss you”: she laughed and leaned her cheek….

W is for — Wax and War

W is for Wax and War

Interesting combination, you say?  Perchance.  All I can say is that I finally found a few matches for W in Vanessa Blaylock’s alphabetical inventory challenge.  I dug out the green wax bangles that I have on my wrist here with some luck; they came from Yak & Yeti several years ago.  And the “war” is this hairstyle from Vanity, Love After War.  You can’t see all the pileup or the tail in back due to my position and the brick walls at the Blarney Stone, but it’s a big updo that works quite nicely.

O is for — Orange

In salute to the inauguration of the new King and Queen of the Netherlands, her home country, Sascha Frangilli has created a new gown named Queen Máxima, in the orange of the Royal House. It will be right in the front of the New Items section of Sascha's Designs, and at a very special price.

The first thing that occurred to me for O in Vanessa Blaylock’s alphabetical inventory challenge was orange; and this gown from Sascha’s Designs, which I featured last year for the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, is as orange as it gets.

Hair Fair 2013 — Truly Outrageous

As promised, here’s a glance at the wigs I purchased from Hair Fair that — take a little work to describe, shall we say?  This will be a long one, but it’s mostly pictures, so stay with me.

Hair Fair 2013 - Stringer Mausoleum Fingers Fortune (fair gift)

The first style I found was from The Stringer Mausoleum, and is their gift to booth visitors; called Fingers Fortune, the name kind of says it all — multiple fingers splaying out in a series of layers.

More hair through here….

I’m Fair-ly Done

Hair Fair 2013 blog

I’ve completed my first run-through of Hair Fair 2013, and there’s a lot of good work here.  Some of the good work is in this year’s build, which is definitely square, but has a charm to it.  I wasn’t sure at first if I liked it or not, with all those primary colors around; and I’m still afraid the Danes are going to invade the four regions of the Fair, demanding royalties for a certain company based in Billund.  But it does the job, and has a definite air of fun for an event aimed at benefiting children.

Others have been focusing on the more standard hairstyles.  If I get the time tonight and tomorrow, I’ll give you a look at my love from Hair Fair — the extreme wigs.

Cajsa Lilliehook On How to Enjoy Hair Fair

hair fair 2013

Hair Fair will be opening in about 90 minutes from when I’m writing this. And, like many years, advice abounds on how to work your way through this most popular of SL fashion events with a minimum of stress. Cajsa Lilliehook of It’s Only Fashion has, like me, seen five of these events, and will be attending her sixth now. And Cajsa’s article has some excellent, easy advice. If you read that, you’ll make your life much simpler as you walk the Lego-strewn paths of this year’s Hair Fair.

Hair Fair 2013 — Updated

hair fair 2013

It’s hard to believe, but Hair Fair is upon us again!  It sneaked up on me this year; I usually look forward to this event each year, but the summer has been active beyond belief with getting my daughter squared away for her freshman year at college (and figuring out how to arrange the budget to pay for it; but that’s another story).  In any case, the time is here; the fair opens on Saturday, July 13, and the Hair Fair Demo group is delivering demo boxes now to members, so you can check out the styles in the quieter, less laggy place of your preference.  Not everyone has served up yet, but I’d say for a starter to check out some of the offerings from Slink, sYs and cheveux.  Remember, if you join the demo group, you can catch up on demos that have already been delivered by going to the Notices tab of the group in your viewer and clicking on each message present, then click on the attachment button below there.

And remember, too, that monies received goes to benefit Wigs for Kids, which provides wigs for children with various hair conditions.  Last year’s Hair Fair took in almost L$2.8 million, a RL contribution of nearly $11,000!

The Fair will run from July 13-28.  I hope to see you there.

SUPPLEMENTAL, 12:48 p.m.:  That other Harper (some chick name of Beresford, I think) has put up some shots of items, and a map and sim list.

3 Casual Mesh Dresses (Updated)

June 19:  updated to include SLurls; I was going to sleep when I originally started searching them out.

Today, you’re getting one massive mess of fashion — mesh dresses from some great designers.  You’ll see them in the slideshow below, in order of the description (if I’m lucky); you can pause the show and right-click, then select “View Image” (or equivalent) to see a larger view.

coldLogic is a name that is earning lots of interest among Grid fashionistas with their mesh designs.  This dress, called Owens, fits quite nicely to your curves, though I had to tweak my shape somewhat to get the fit right.  Having never tweaked these settings before, it was probably time to do a little adjustment.  (I sometimes think I’m a little over-endowed in the boobs, anyway, so a bit of breast reduction was probably a good thing.)

Prism is a great favorite of mine, though I haven’t wrote much about Journey’s pieces lately.  I tend to think more of her knits than summer clothes.  However, the Emily mesh top and pants are shooting right up to a favorite spot for summer casual wear.

Of course, every woman who loves evening dresses has heard of Sascha’s Designs, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have at least one of Sascha Frangilli’s famed “battleship-skirt” gowns in their closet.  But Sascha also does casual wear, and this, believe it or not, is her first mesh entry.  Fittingly, it’s named Mondriaan, and is as mod as it gets; but fits quite nicely into modern tastes as well.

Across the board, I’m wearing shoes from R2 Fashion, a fantastic shoe designer I discovered at Collarbor88.  I’ve been stocking up on shoes since, and am featuring her extremely stylish pumps, wedges and boots all through here.

Red Lip Wednesday Redux — The Enchantress

I slapped together the two photos I posted Wednesday for Cajsa Lilliehook’s Red Lip Wednesday Challenge in a half-hour before having to get ready for work.   I must have done a better job in 30 minutes than I thought, because I got a fave on the post.  Here’s four more, with the local effects finally kicking in, and a touch more makeup to improve the look.

Donna Flora in the Fountain

Three coins in a fountain
Each one seeking happiness
Thrown by three hopeful lovers
Which one will the fountain bless

Three hearts in a fountain
Each heart longing for its home
There they lie in the fountain
Somewhere in the heart of Rome

“Three Coins in the Fountain”
music by Jule Styne; lyrics by Sammy Cahn

For those who have been wondering about how Squinternet Larnia has been doing, the reports are that she is improved, and in fact has gotten a better diagnosis than was feared for her.  She isn’t out of the woods yet, but she is gradually working her way back into activity, and managed to set up her store at the recent Fashion for Life.  She has also put together a new dress, with the lovely retro flairs that are her signature take on Italian style.

I figured, after picking up my own set of Donna Flora’s new April dress, that I’d go walking around the Bonin region that holds Squinternet’s atelier.  It was a pleasure to discover this recreation of Rome’s Trevi Fountain, and it gave me the idea for my interpretation of the frock.
You can get a look at it in detail after the break.
